There is something to be said about audiobooks. I love when the characters have to fight with everything they have and only if they choose to risk it all can they be happy in the end. Part of me was just ‘alright what’s the answer already’, but also part was ‘oooo this is building to be quite the explosion!’. This book has a lot of flash backs that are used to explain how these two got to the point of hating each other so bad. The essence of the forbidden romance gave a whole new level on top of the bullying and fighting between both characters. ![]() I can’t even express in words how much I love this book. Little bits and pieces are revealed so slowly that you just follow the crumb trail trying to get to the cookie end. This story has a slow burn that intensifies as it goes. There is soooo much tension between these characters and so much hate from each of them. Madoc was just fine and living his life, until she comes back into town and turns everything upside down. I even love the opening of the book where Fallon clearly digs Tate from book one wondering why she never sticks up for herself ?įallon was gone for a while, and when she returns she causes a storm. Book 2 in the Fall Away Series was even better than the first. This book pushes the limits in the best way possible. The forbidden romance and taboo lines that get blurred are so intense and so much fun. ![]() ![]() ![]() Despite the fact that Demetrie spent so much of her time taking care of the children, Stockett knew very little about her personal life and decided to fill that gap by writing in Demetrie's voice. She enlists the help of Aibileen Clark (a warm, wise black woman with a tragic past) and Minny Jackson (a sharp-tongued maid with a terrible secret) to assist her in this task.Īuthor Kathryn Stockett drew inspiration for The Help (which is her first novel) from her close relationship with her childhood maid, Demetrie. In Jackson Mississippi in the 1960s, aspiring writer Skeeter Phelan gets a dangerous idea: to write a book about what it's really like to be a black maid working for a white family. Published in 2009, The Help tells the story of three women who work together to challenge the racial status quo of their day. ![]() ![]() ![]() Their affair persists through decades of war, adultery, murder, loneliness, and redemption. Within this era of danger and romance, John of Gaunt, the king s son, falls passionately in love with the already-married Katherine. Not recommended to someone looking for something super thought-provoking Recommended to someone looking for a fun contemporary read ![]() ![]() Too often protagonists become this artificially perfect people, but Steph doesn’t fall into this trap, which added to my enjoyment of the book.Īngus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison I think Meg Cabot did a good job of creating a very real person in Steph. As a slightly older and more mature reader, I was able to look at Steph and her choices and not only empathize with her, but understand where she was going wrong (or right). This is about a fairly common high school experience. The voice actress, Kate Reinders, was wonderful, and if you ever have the option to listen to one of the audiobooks she narrates, I fully recommend it. Does being popular matter It matters very much to Steph. Steph’s been the least popular girl in her class since a certain cherry Super Big Gulp catastrophe five years earlier. I listened to this as an audiobook and it was a fantastic light and fun listen. His portrayal of the mid-wars generation, product of the '20s but still thinking as if it was the 1800s, is hilarious. Touted as Wodehouse's best, I find it hard to argue. In an impossible series of events that includes a silver cow creamer, that may or may not be "Modern Dutch," various engagements, a Hitler-wannabe (written in '38 so, at that point, Hitler's deepest sins had not quite made it across the channel), newts, a policeman's helmet, a violent terrier, and, of course, the most perfect gentleman's gentleman, Jeeves, Bertie Wooster manages to avoid jail, indigestion, and an engagement, and stays his own upbeat, unbeatable self. With Wodehouse, you don't have that worry. except that in that instance a bit of worry about your eventual well-being may linger in the back of your mind. Wodehouse is like getting on a boat, pushing out into a lazy river oar-less, and letting the current carry you wherever it may. ![]() ![]() I feel there is a book five after this one and I can’t wait to read more of this pack!
